Systems of Connection highlights the patterns created from the flow of liquid matter. Each piece is based on a river system and arterial structures in the human body. By abstracting the forms and highlighting the shapes the similarities become visible. Each work describes and compares a macroscopic and microscopic environment.
In recent years I have felt little desire to create artworks on a two-dimensional surface. Painting had become a repetitive and unimaginative activity that no longer produced the joy and excitement it once had guaranteed to deliver. These techniques such as frottage, trace monotype, stencil prints, allow me to make marks using my hand directly and indirectly.
Each of these selected works is one of a kind and represent my recent development.
Monotypes are products of a one-time occurrence in a split moment in time, a one-off edition of pigment being captured on a substrate. Each print highlights the characteristics of the paper and the material properties of wax.
Encased within set parameters the sharp edges are harmless until the hand reaches inside.
The interior form is contained to the axis of the square and has linear range of motion along the connecting bar allowing it to spin freely. The interior is like the mind of a human being, beautiful, complex and poses danger if breached without proper consideration.
